This is the first in a bright, colorful, vaguely nostalgic series of paintings called St. Anita. The series was initially inspired by the colors and patterns of the tiles and walls that I saw in an old section of Santa Anita racetrack while on a trip there recently with my father. The series is still in progress, and will continue to take shape through conversations with the work of Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Agnes Martin, and Jacques Tati.
